6th Graders, Welcome to Chadwick!

Welcome 6th grade students to Chadwick! We're going to have a great time studying science this year. Hopefully, you can come to "Sandal Camp" and learn a little bit about the year ahead of you. If not, that's OK, we'll get you up to speed when you arrive on September 7th -- the first official day of school. In Sandal Camp we'll begin with a topic suggested by administration and then follow that up with a few science puzzlers. Towards the end of "Sandal Camp" and for the first week of school, we'll take a look at CIMI -- Catalina Island Marine Institute -- the location of our week-long marine biology trip the second week of school. This is a great trip and I know you'll love the hands-on labs, hiking, snorkeling, and marine investigations. It's a chance to learn more about the ocean, meet new friends, and have a great time at the beginning of a new school year. Our focus this year will be on marine biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, and engineering. It's going to be a great year and I look forward to working with you!

MrC's Homeroom 2009-2010

On Thursday, May 20th MrC's homeroom celebrated the end of the school year with a party. Students made cupcakes and cookies and brought chips and dip and lots of other goodies to share. Spirits were high and everyone was smiling at the conclusion of many "Circle Discussions" each Friday and lots of time together during the school year.

Science News at Hammond

RSS Podcasts have been uploaded and are ready for our visitors to listen to. Click on the picture above or this MP3 PLAYER LINK to listen to the many podcasts created by 8th grade science students. Students researched a science news article using the RSS feeds page on the science web site. Then, they wrote a summary of the article that interested them the most. Next, they recorded their summary using mp3 recorders and external microphones. Files were then transferred over to laptop computers and edited with Audacity, an open-source sound-editing software application. Finally, the completed files were uploaded to the internet. We hope you enjoy these excellent SCIENCE NEWS AT HAMMOND broadcasts.

Podcasting Pictures Now Available

Podcasting recording photos taken before Thanksgiving Vacation have been uploaded to a new photo gallery. We will be continuing with the project this week. Additional tasks include re-recording RSS Essays as needed (especially for those who were absent Tuesday before vacation -- or, for those who experienced 'technical difficulties' during their recording session), transferring the audio files to laptops, editing the files with Audacity, and finally, exporting the edited file as a finished mp3 file. Our goal is to create an mp3 gallery of "Science News" at Hammond. Click on the picture to access the photo gallery.

Halloween Pictures

Halloween at Mr. C's house in Winston-Salem, NC. ---- Former students (dressed up as campfire "Somores") came by to visit and say "Hello." Also, there are pictures in the photo gallery of Mr. C's three year old granddaughter, Ashling, dressed up as a fairy and some great pumpkins carved by Ashling's dad.
