June, 2017 -- MakerSpace Activity -- Bottle Rockets!
Oh, they went so far, several better than 350 feet!
For this building project, I made the fins and nose cones ahead of time, since my youngest builder was just 4. The kids chose their fin colors, measured the bottle circumference & put marks on the bottle for the 3 fins, attached the fins and the nose cone, and added a rice bag at the top of the second bottle to add weight to the rocket. (Note: We have found that a mass of around 230 grams makes for an excellent weight.)
Finally, when the project was completed and the rocket was essentially finished, they took white paper and created a "skin" to decorate the rocket with their own drawings.
